In Memory of Senator Feinstein

Yesterday, the famous Rainbow Flag flying at Harvey Milk Plaza was replaced. As many locals and frequent visitors might know, the flag is regularly changed 3-4 times per year to be always vibrant and stunning. Yesterday’s replacement was done in time for the Castro Street Fair tomorrow (see more details below.)

However, with the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein, our usually joyous ceremony took a more somber tone as we all reflected on her remarkable life and achievements. Senator Feinstein’s legacy included many firsts. She shattered glass ceilings as the first female President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first female Mayor of San Francisco, and the first woman Senator from California. She also set records as the longest-serving female in the Senate, setting a high bar for future leaders.

Her impact will resonate through the generations, leaving an indelible mark on our collective history. This is why we dedicated the retiring flag to her memory and years of advocacy and raised the new flag as a beacon of hope for our future.

Sunday, October 1 | The 49th Annual Castro Street Fair

The Castro Street Fair takes place from 11: 00 AM to 6:00 PM. This year’s Fair will have an even larger footprint than 2022 with multiple entertainment stages. The Castro Stage will have the best & brightest DJs from the Bay Area spinning beats all day long. The Collingwood Stage, co-presented by T4T, will feature local drag artists and performers, including the incomparable Juanita MORE!

Long-time friends from Sundance Saloon will once again be two-stepping in the Castro Theater Parking Lot. CheerSF and the SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band will be performing throughout the Fair. Plus, check out the newest addition, Artyhood; an entertainment and an exhibitor village along 18th Street between Castro and Noe curated by the Castro Art Mart .

Tips for Enjoying the Castro Street Fair

  • While the fair organizers suggest a donation of $10-$20 at the entrance, it's important to note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

  • With a multitude of local vendors offering food and beverages, it's recommended to leave your supplies at home and explore the diverse offerings available at the fair.

  • While there are arts, crafts, clothing, and food vendors catering to families, the fair's spirit of self-expression may not be suitable for all ages. Consider this when planning your visit.
